Customer questions answered
(Q) Will this plant survive in my tank without CO2 or special fertilizers?
= Yes — the Amazon Sword is one of the most adaptable aquatic plants available. It doesn't require CO2 injection to thrive. A standard weekly dose of liquid fertilizer (such as Seachem Flourish) and optional root tabs near its base are all it needs to grow vigorously. It performs well in a wide range of water conditions and is an ideal choice if you're setting up a low-tech planted tank.
(Q) How big will it get, and where should I place it in my aquarium?
= Amazon Swords can reach over 20 inches in height at full maturity, so they're best placed in the background of your aquascape or as a dramatic centerpiece in tanks under 20 gallons. In larger tanks (55+ gallons), a single plant can fill and anchor an entire corner. Plan for its footprint — the root system grows wide and deep, so give it room to spread.
(Q) Is it safe for my fish, and will they damage it?
= Amazon Swords are completely safe for fish, shrimp, and invertebrates. In fact, many fish — especially angelfish — use the broad leaves as a natural surface for laying eggs. Some herbivorous fish (like goldfish or certain cichlids) may nibble the leaves, but for most community tank species, the plant coexists beautifully and provides important cover, reducing fish stress and encouraging natural behavior.
