Fancy Guppies
Fancy guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are some of the most colorful freshwater fish you can keep, and among the easiest. Peaceful, active, and endlessly varied, they bring nonstop movement and color to any planted aquarium.
Guppy Varieties
- Dragon Guppies – bold, dramatic coloring with flowing tails
- Mosaic Guppies – marbled, stained-glass tail patterns
- Grass Guppies – fine, speckled tails that shimmer under light
- Metal Guppies – a reflective, metallic sheen across the body
- Koi Guppies – koi-inspired red and white coloring
- Albino Guppies – pale bodies with distinctive red eyes
Why Guppies Thrive in a Planted Tank
Live plants give guppies places to explore and give newborn fry a safe place to hide. Fine-leaved and floating plants like Java Moss, Hornwort, Water Sprite, and Red Root Floaters work especially well. Plants also absorb waste, helping keep water clean and stable.
