Betta Fish
Betta fish (Betta splendens), also known as Siamese fighting fish, are famous for their brilliant colors, flowing fins, and bold personalities. Native to the shallow, plant-filled waters of Southeast Asia, bettas are curious, intelligent fish that thrive in a well-planted tank.
Popular Betta Types
- Halfmoon – a wide tail that spreads into a full half-circle
- Plakat – short, sturdy fins and an active swimming style
- Crowntail – spiky, crown-like fin rays
- Koi Betta – marbled koi-style patterns that can shift over time
Why Bettas Love a Planted Tank
In the wild, bettas live among dense vegetation, so live plants help them feel secure and show their best colors. Broad leaves like Anubias and Java Fern give them resting spots near the surface, while floating plants such as Red Root Floaters soften the light. See our guide to the best live plants for betta fish.
