(Q) Will this grow in my low-tech tank without CO2?

= Yes — Bacopa monnieri is one of the most forgiving aquatic plants available. It grows in low, medium, or high light and doesn't require CO2 injection at all. Under lower light it stays compact and grows more slowly; under stronger light it puts out faster, lusher growth. Either way, it thrives.

(Q) How tall does it get, and will it take over my tank?

= In a submerged setup, Bacopa monnieri can reach 12+ inches if left untrimmed — but that's a feature, not a problem. Simply trim the tops and replant cuttings to fill in your midground, or trim to your preferred height. It grows with predictable, upright stems that don't sprawl or crowd neighboring plants.

(Q) Can it grow above the waterline, and does it need special conditions?

= Yes — and it's surprisingly easy. In emergent or paludarium setups, keep the soil moist-to-wet and maintain high humidity around the stems. Rather than growing upright like it does underwater, emersed Bacopa takes on a low, creeping habit — spreading horizontally across moist soil. It's also the well-known herbal supplement Brahmi and will grow happily on a bright windowsill in a container of shallow water.
